The City of Oldsmar, on the eastern edge of Pinellas County at the northern end of Tampa Bay. Oldsmar is a beautifully planned city but it did not fulfill its developer’s dreams of becoming the pinnacle of automobile manufacturing.
The inventor of the Oldsmobile and REO cars, Mr. R. E. Olds, bought almost thirty eight thousand acres of land at the northern tip of Tampa Bay in 1913 with the plan of developing a planned, busy community. Inspired by the layout of Washington D.C. with tree-lined boulevards leading from the bay to downtown, Oldsmar was meant not for the wealthy but the working people. The town was originally named R. E. Olds-On-The-Bay but later changed to Oldsmar. Oldsmar is great mid-point between Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties.
