Weeki Watchee is one of the Florida’s oldest communities. Weeki Watchee is also known as the “City of Mermaids” for its legendary performances in the world’s only underwater freshwater spring theater. The name “Weeki Watchee” is derived from the Seminole Nation’s expression for “Little Spring”. That name is a misnomer because the spring is rather large and pumps about 168-million gallons of water every 24 hours.
This community is one of the smallest incorporated cities in Florida with a population of nearly10,000. Weeki Wachee is a quiet town located near US 19, a couple of miles north of Hernando Beach. Most of the homes for sale are built along the secluded riverbanks and inlets of the Weeki Wachee River. Weeki Wachee real estate prices begin in the low $100′s. Many single family homes can be found in this range, all the way to luxury estate properties nearing half a million.
